dana's favorite things: christmas 2010 #3

cold weather and warm drinks.

nothing "warms your inerds", as my mom says, quicker than a good hot drink. here are some new twists on old favorites:

hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. the perfect wind-down at the end of the day. it's especially nice if you have a bit of the winter sniffles. it's warm, it's soothing, it's refreshing, and it's chocolate. win win win win.

soy egg nog. i've been a drinker of soy milk for some time now. it started with lactose intolerance, which is far less problematic than it once was (i can have nearly all dairy products). now i drink soy milk because it's delicious. for cooking, stick to the regular milk--soy will ruin it quickly. but for a kick to your bland health cereal, it works quite nicely. and now, they have egg nog! it's wonderful by itself, but it also makes wonderful coffee creamer! try it!

a returning favorite: caramel apple cider from starbucks. magic in a paper cup. all it is is steamed apple juice with a caramel spice sauce, but it is SO good. i can never pace myself when i get one. it's usually gone within a few minutes.

and lastly: a good old fashioned cup o' joe. a year-round favorite, made even better during cold weather. and with the variety of ways to prepare it (including the vast array of winter-time creamers out there), there's a coffee treat out there willing to satisfy any need. cappucinos, lates, or for the straight blacks, coffee has you covered as well. it's warming, energizing (unless you're a decaff-er), and it smells wonderful.

keep warm out there and treat yourself to a delicious winter beverage!

merry christmas and stay tuned for more
